Trying Something New: "No Makeup" Makeup

Hello again to all my lovely readers. Today I am discussing the topic of "No Makeup" makeup. You know how celebrities are photographed doing mundane tasks like buying toilet paper yet still look amazing? You know how the Olsen twin are spotted on the streets looking as if they have not showered in a week but they still look fantastic? That my friends, is the illusion of "no makeup" makeup. Some may think it's absolutely insane to spend any amount of time putting on makeup to look like you are not wearing any but I disagree, that's what makeup is all about. Makeup is an illusion, there is so much money pumped into the cosmetics industry every year to create the technologies that mimic skin and disappear on the skin. If you really think that celebrities actually roll out of bed looking like a Clarins skincare advertisement, you can feel better in knowing that in actual fact they are wearing quite a lot of makeup.

The reason I've decided to rock the "no makeup" look is because today is my mini-detox from makeup. Yes, I am still wearing quite a number of products, but they are for the purpose of evening out my skin tone. This little detox has helped me realize that I don't need to wear a full face of makeup every day. There was a time (not so long ago) when I wouldn't dream of going outside my house mascara-less, but I have changed my opinion in the past few months. As I get older, I feel more comfortable with myself and in my own skin. I  find taking things back a notch can help me to realize my own natural beauty while also helping me to appreciate how wearing more makeup enhances what I already have. But for now, I just want to look like myself... minus the extras.

How do you feel about "no makeup" makeup? Do you like to take a detox from makeup every now and then? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

What I'm wearing on my face:

  • Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer
  • Vichy Dermablend Foundation Stick in 11 Porcelain (to cover blemishes)
  • Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer (for under eye bags)
  • Clarins Ever Matte Powder
  • Nars Amour Blush
  • Benefit Hoola
  • Lancome Powder Pencil for Brows in Sable
  • Burts Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Pink Blossom
Thanks for reading.

  1. I love a good no-makeup makeup look. For me, I would use foundation, mascara, brow products, and a tinted lip balm. I have to wake up around 6AM soon for some school related things and I've been using this week to practice my no-makeup makeup look to figure out what I would definitely need to use to look put together while covering up my acne and discoloration.

    1. Thanks so much for comment Hao :) I totally agree with you. Early mornings are brutal for a full face of makeup (which will probably look worse for wear by the end of the day). I'm all about covering up the acne and evening everything out. It's great to have a five product (or less) face figured out. xo

  2. This is pretty much what I do for work everyday. Just even out the skin and add some blush for colour with some mascara (or skip mascara on nights). If I have some extra time I'll add a bit of bronzer to the brow bone/crease and some highlight. I don't need to take a makeup detox since I only really get to do a full face look about twice a week so it's still fun!

    1. That's true enough Julia! It's definitely not tempting to put on a full face of makeup for a 12 hour shift. I tend to do the same routine for myself except I will usually add a neutral eyeshadow because my eye lids are unfortunately veiny. I also tend to stick to tinted moisturizer on nights so I don't feel like I'm napping in heavy makeup. Thanks for commenting love! xo

  3. I actually sometimes like the way I look BETTER without too much makeup! But, I OWN so much makeup that it doesn't happen often, because I feel guilty lol. Normally I'll wear zero makeup on Sundays just to take a bit of a break :)

    1. I agree with you there! Sometimes I get carried away playing with makeup and feel like I look too "done", it's so refreshing to take it down a notch every once and a while. I usually wear makeup every day but I love to wash it off as early as possible once I know that I'm in for the night. Thanks for commenting :) xo
